The world is changing along with our many opposing views towards gmo’s and organic food. It’s becoming more a more popular for health enthusiasts to switch over to plant based proteins.

I am happy to say that I personally made the choice to switch over from consuming whey protein for over a decade, to finally begin consuming plant based protein. I switched over partially because I was developing some signs of lactose intolerance, but mainly because I BELIEVE it is a much healthier option.

For those of you who are vegan or vegetarian, it is an ABSOLUTE necessity to consume protein supplements like the ones I’ve listed below. It can be VERY difficult to get the correct amount of protein and amino acids when you are not consuming any meat, especially when trying to lose weight! Here is a list of the top 5 plant based protein powders available out there today.

5. Orgain Organic Protein

Not a bad product by any means, but there are some better ones out there. It’s still a great overall value and packs a punch of 21 grams of protein in it. Tastes just ok, but it also contains more sugar and carbs than most of the other plant based proteins out there. So for a mediocre taste and added extra sugars/carbs, I put this one in last.

Protein Sources: Pea Protein, Brown Rice Protein, Chia Protein

Flavors: Chocolate Fudge, Vanilla bean, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Cookies and Cream, Iced Matcha Latte, Peanut Butter, Vanilla Almond, Unsweetened, Creamy Chocolate.

Amount Per Serving: Protein 21g, Sugar 5g, Carbohydrates 15g, Calories

Serving Per Container: 20

4.Naked Pea

Great Product for weight loss. This Protein is made only with pea protein and nothing else. No artificial sweeteners or flavors added to it. I know some people do not like the taste of pea protein alone, I thought it was fine as long as I added a little stevia. Overall, pretty good all around value (Especially The Price). I have not tried the vanilla or Chocolate yet, so maybe those have a better flavor (will be sampling soon).

Protein Sources: Pea Protein

Flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate, Unflavored

Amount Per Serving: Protein 27g, Sugar 2g, Carbohydrates 2g, Calories 120

Servings Per Container: 76

3. Garden of Life RAW Organic Protein

Another great product with an excellent source of protein. I was using this product for a while, my only complaint is it has a great flavor going down shortly followed by a funky aftertaste. Also, for whatever reason the dry powder sticks to surfaces very easily (make sure to do it over a sink). Other than that, it’s a good value, has lots of protein, and also has PROBIOTICS!

Protein Sources: Pea Protein, Brown Rice Protein

Flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, Vanilla Chai, Unflavored

Amount Per Serving: Protein 22 g, Sugar 0g, Carbohydrates 2 g, Calories 110

Servings Per Container: 20

2. Vega Protein & Greens

Excellent product, and also one of my favorites. This protein has ALMOST everything you need in it. It falls short on Probiotics and vitamins. I’ve personally had the chocolate and I think it taste great!

Protein Sources: Pea Protein, Brown Rice Protein, Hemp Protein, Sacha Inchi Protein

Flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, Coconut Almond, Natural, Tropical, Berry

Amount Per Serving: Protein 20g, Sugar 0g, Carbohydrates 3g, Calories 110

Servings Per Container: 26

1. 310 Nutrition Shake

This protein is a great overall product for weight loss. It is a protein shake, but it is also viewed as a meal replacement. All of their flavors taste great, Chocolates my favorite(Chocolates my go to)! It has an excellent blend of plant based proteins in it, however it is a little pricey. The only real drawback to this product is the amount of protein per serving compared to its competitors. I still rate this as the number one plant based protein because it contains EVERYTHING you need and also has only 90 calories per serving. It has probiotics, a vitamin and mineral blend, and my personal favorite the incorporation of ORGANIC vegetables/greens (Hence why it’s so pricey).

Protein Sources: Hemp Protein, Brown Rice Protein, Pea Protein

Flavors: Chocolate, Salted Caramel, Strawberry, Vanilla Chai, Mocha, and Vanilla

Amount Per Serving: Protein 15g, Sugar 0g, 7g Carbohydrates, Calories 90

Servings Per Container: 28

So, that wraps up my top 5 recommendations for plant based protein. Always remember that without proper diet and exercise, these supplements will only get you so far.
